UN confirms four of its personnel were killed in Kabul suicide attack

Khaama press : The United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) condemned in the strongest terms a deadly attack on a strictly civilian target which took place on Friday evening in a restaurant in the capital.

UNAMA following a statement said, “Four United Nations personnel, along with a number of those from other international organizations, are now confirmed dead.”

“I strongly condemn the targeting of civilians in any form, and, in particular, the continued use of suicide bombers,” said the Secretary-General’s Special Representative for Afghanistan and head of UNAMA, Ján Kubiš. “This violence is unacceptable and must stop immediately.”

UN Mission extends its sincere condolences to the families of those killed in the attack and wishes a speedy recovery to all those injured, UNAMA said in the statement.

Kabul security officials said at least 16 people including foreigners were killed and 6 others were injured following the attack which took place on a Lebanese restaurant around 7:20 pm local time.

Kabul security chief, Gen. Zahir Zahir following a press conference said, the attack was carried out a group of three suicide bombers.

Gen. Zahir further added that two suicide bombers managed to enter the restaurant compound after the first bomber detonated his explosives near the entry gate of the restaurant.

He said the clashes continued for more than hours between the assailant militants and Afghan security forces.

A spokesman for the Taliban group Zabiullah Mujahid claimed responsibility behind the attack and said heavy casualties were incurred to German nationals
